PITAN Pty Ltd was founded in 1989 and has grown out of an historical involvement of key members of the staff, through the sister logistics and business consultancy, Gardner, Cooper & Associates (GCA), in the analysis, specification and implementation of data management systems in a wide variety of commercial and government operations. The strong operational leaning, predominantly in materials handling and distribution systems, contrasts the more conventional software house background of accounting solutions.

In the 80's GCA provided interim systems to bridge the critical period between the identification of major data processing opportunities. Examples were multi location distribution centre management front ends for Mainframe systems for Nissan Motor Company Australia in the National Parts Centre and Telecom Australia in their Warehousing and Distribution centres in the eastern states.

The development philosophy of PITAN is based on the design of functional, user friendly and flexible systems.
